Afternoon Light

Intro

From relationships with great-grandparents to everyday conversations with neighbors to life lessons shared by teachers, the work of intergenerational relationships is one of the most treasured privileges that keeps this world alive.  Intergenerational relationships influence the types of lives that younger generations want and choose to live.  These exchanges create a sense of connectivity and connection for both people in the relationship from both age spectrums, each learning new skills and are are less isolated from the world around them.

Our
Story

Purpose

This website is meant to help individuals learn what intergenerational relationships are and to  explore the deeper meaning behind their beauty and significance.  Through interviews, photos, and personal testimonies, viewers will be transported to a space where they can learn and share about intergenerational relationships happening in all environments near and far!  I aim to bring to light how even in everyday occupations, intergenerational relationships are one of the key components in keeping this systems alive, shining light on also the people that make societies run so smoothly and how important they are in life.  I want to be able to accomplish the act of informing individuals hopefully around the world about the power and importance of intergenerational relationships and carry on this mission of making it a priority in everyday and work spaces. By using an approach of storytelling and attitudes of cheerfulness, positivity, vulnerability, and playfulness I hope to achieve this goal throughout all aspects of the website.

Audience

My target audience for this topic are individuals ages 18-60 (young adults into older adulthood who are interested in authentic stories about truth, relationships, and humanity that make them feel connected and seen.  I want to create a space where people would want to come to and share with others they know of.  Secondary audiences of this topic might be those that stumble across this website but are interested in learning more about the topic of intergenerational relationships based off of a headline of one of the bigger stories I share.

Vlog

Text

Types of text that I will include range from photos that tie along with the stories that I will post about, possibly podcast segments that dive deeper into the heart of these relationships from first person narration and anecdotes.  I would love to include my own personal relationships and experiences with intergenerational relationships and share how it has impacted my own life and give way for people to also share their own experiences through submissions of photos and stories some how.

Casual Meeting

Setting

I was thinking that ideally my website would circulate with a new story every week and that there would be an interactive type of newsletter of some kind that would also highlight a new story from the news or media source that addresses intergenerational relationships. While I do not know when people may be reading the new posts on my website, I do hope that this space cultivates an uplifting and community-based environment that people can read from anywhere.

Volunteers

Resources

Resources that I will draw upon as I create this website are the websites Humans of NYC blog site as well as the news series Some Good News hosted by John Krasinski.  Both platforms serve as great models of interconnected storytelling that attract a wide range of humans with the similar goal of creating a space for connection and opportunities for audiences to see intergenerational relationships in a new light  to hear about the good that they bring into the world. I also really enjoyed learning more about how their particular style of media attracts different types of people from all ages.

Models

The model and designs that I have in mind for this website include organizing the space to be both a blog of new stories and incorporating a space for people to learn new stories, see pictures, and hear from personal experiences via podcasts or interviews.
